Makes me want to get up and dance - alas, I don't have a fancy dress! What do the ladies wear around their necks?

Marinera is actually the Zamacueca. Someone named it after the Peruvian Navy when the war with Chile (1879-1883) was over (!). This dance is one of the most Peruvian cultural expressions you can find, it is originated from indigenous Moche, afrodescendant and european rythms as well. You can find this dance all over Peru, with different styles and tones. The Zamacueca was very famous all over South America in the XIX century and it became the Cueca en Bolivia and Chile, and the Zamba in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.
